About the workshop
The course is an excellent introduction into the basics for access users who would like to use the workshop facility for their own projects. You will be able to work safely and care for presses and equipment.

An interest in drawing is an advantage, but not essential. Students will be shown how Bavarian limestone blocks
are grained and then drawn onto using lithographic pencils, crayons and inks. Chemically treated, the stone is then printed using a specially designed press, using archival quality inks and papers.

Week 1: You will learn the history of lithography and technical information -
the big picture; lithographic drawing materials, transfer papers, demonstration of handling, graining and caring for stones and plates.
Week 2: Drawing up the stone or plywood (mokulito), transferring images from transfer paper; gum etching the printing matrix.
Week 3: Ink mixing, papers, the printing press - function, care and procedures; printing papers and inks, proofing and the second etch.
Week 4: Printing the Mokulito print. Use and care of the etching press.
Week 5: Editioning – procedures.
Weeks 6 and 7: Assisted printing.
