Sasi Victoire Book launch Q150
Belonging, identity and the journey towards self-discovery are all themes explored by Sasi Victoire in her writing and artworks.
With assistance from Q150 and RADF grants she has now developed Moving House and Crokee's Country in which she explores her local landscape and characters. They form the backdrop and setting for her children's books to preserve and record the intangible heritage of this area.
The books reflect belonging and embracing life in North Queensland; against the fascinating tropical backdrop of familiar, yet unique spaces Sasi now calls her home.
Moving House is a book about a Queenslander home that is saved in the village of Stratford. Crockee's Country is inspired by the many crocodile narratives exchanged at the old Barron River bridge where she now walks her dogs. These daily walks also reveal much damage to the Barron River catchment area through leisure activities and development.
In Crokee's Country she highlights the need for protective custodianship of waterways and valuing the environment.
Sasi provides a preview snapshot of the themes she has explored in the works that accompany the launch of her books on 24 November at JCU Library at 4pm and 5 December at 3 pm at Cairns Regional Gallery as part of the Q150 celebrations. (See invitation)
These books translate across national borders to all children about what is unique and essential about their surroundings and the need to preserve their intangible heritage. It also reveals the character of the Tropical Far North Queensland to audiences beyond the stereotypical Australian kangaroos and koala tourism pitch.
